WIP Wednesday #3

I have nothing to report on the granny square blanket - I got bored. How do you make those HUGE blankets?

I'm still looking for a pattern for that hideous knitting challenge wool.

I think the wool needs a plain pattern or it will just mess with my head. What do you think?

I need some size 7 DPNs for the pattern and I dont have any so havent got started yet.

I'm not entirely sure what all this means either yet so maybe this WIP wont actually become a WIP for a while. Sorry. :(

"Next round, needle 1:  Knit 4, slip next 4 stitches to a piece of waste yarn, CO 4 stitches using the backward loop method, knit to end.  Continue knitting in the round until entire piece measures 11 inches.  Bind off.

Thumb:  Place 4 stitches from waste yarn on a double point.  Pick up and knit 4 stitches around thumb opening using another double point.  Using a third double point, pick up and knit 4 more stitches around thumb opening.  12 stitches.

Join. Knit in round for 1.5 inches.  Bind off."

I'll message Leslie at http://a-friend-to-knit-with.blogspot.com/2008/09/toasttoasty.html and see if she can transtate it into beginners terms for me. What is binding off????

WIP Wednesday #2

Ok, so the WIP from 2 weeks ago hasnt become a FO yet. The end of term is just crazy.

I havent had much time to get anythign done but when I did get back to the hooks, I decided that the black was a bit too much and have removed it.



I used my camera for these photos, not my phone, but they still arent really representing the colours too well. the green is a much lighter colour and you cant really see the difference between the blue and the purple. I'll keep trying with the photography.

But I'm much happier with the colours.

Who knows when it will be finished. I can only imagine.

Have a look at Tamis amis for some more WIPs. (They're much more pro than mine and might actually become FO's this millennium)

Edited to say: I suppose I should add the 'before' photo.

Stumped

I'm considering the pink fingerless gloves for my luminous wool challenge. What do you think? I feel I have to make something I'll actually use or it will be a complete waste of the wool. It wont fit with the Granny square blanket I'm making.

Let me know. I'm a bit stumped.

PLEASE HELP!!!

Dr Lucy has laid down a challenge.

She bought 3 balls of identical wool and has given one to me, one to Dr Abbe and kept one. She says we need to make something interesting with it, which I dont find so much of a challenge, but look at it.......

It's quite interesting. I dont think the photos really show off the luminous colours to their fullest.

So what can I make with it? 

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Birthday fun

Last week it was Dr Lucy's birthday so a mutual friend of ours (also a Dr but a Dr of chemistry type stuff that she cant really explain) Dr Abbe booked us a surprise cupcake decorating class. Lucy suspected that it was craft related and thought we were learning to knit or crochet but was equally delighted to find out that she was going to be getting her fingers on some sweet, sticky goodness.

We spent 2 hours learning how to use sugar paste, fontant and buttercream and here are the results:

Needless to say, after spending all afternoon slaving over them and then carrying them through the underground on a hot July day we didnt really fancy eating them.

But after cup cake fun we headed to Victoria for some well earned Pimms then to the Victoria Palace Theatre to see Billy Elliott. I LOVED it.

It was a REALLY fab day with 2 really fab people.

WIP

Apparently it's WIP Wednesday.
I was looking at this blog  craftsfromthecwtch.co.uk and found the Work In Progress post which had a link to this blog tamisamis.blogspot.com and its list of other blogs and their WIPs.

So I thought I'd attempt a WIP post.

I suppose I have a few WIPs, the socks, the granny squares, the bags......

But the beautiful granny square blanket on craftsfromthecwtch.co.uk  has inspired me to get some more of my blanket done. So this is where I am.....

There's no new knitting to update you on. I was away camping over the weekend (turned out there were 45 scouts and guides to keep an eye on!!!) and I didnt take any knitting with me so no progress on those beautiful socks :(

But I was just surfing around the other day and came across this:
Craft Blog UK and saw a picture I recognised. It was this one: 

I had found my own blog right there, on the home page. A link to my little blog. I have no idea how it got there but it seems to have sign posted quite a few of you onto here so welcome. Sorry there's such a lack of knitting on my 'knitting' blog. There are only 2 and a half weeks of term left (how on earth did that happen? where has the year gone?) and I'm really hoping to get some serious knitting done over the holidays so please keep popping back.

I'm studying again tomorrow so I'd better get to bed, the course fries my brain at the best of times, let alone when I'm tired!
